| Principal's Message |
Hello everyone and welcome to another week in our fabulous school!
Today we hosted another of our Special Ladies Morning filled with lovely food and special treats for our special ladies. An event organised and planned by our Parent Ambassadors group. This event is for all our mothers, aunties, grandmothers and special friends. We welcomed all of the many wonderful women who represent our students and their families to come and sit together, talk and share your stories, with each other.
As a school we value and appreciate the work that all our mothers put into the everyday lives of their children and families. We thank you for all your support and encourage you to be involved in the school community in any way you can.
There are so many good reasons for parents to volunteer at school. It's a great way to show your kids that you take an interest in their education, and it sends a positive message that you consider school a worthwhile cause.
Parent volunteers offer a huge resource and support base for the school community while showing their kids the importance of participating in the larger community. Not only will the school reap the benefits of your involvement — you will, too. By interacting with teachers, administrators, and other parents on a regular basis, you'll gain a firsthand understanding of your child's daily activities. You'll also tap into trends and fads of school life that can help you communicate with your kids as they grow and change (all without intruding on their privacy or personal space).
Even if you haven't been involved in the past, it's never too late to start. Your child’s teacher is looking forward to welcoming you into the learning spaces.
ASSEMBLY
Assembly will be held on Friday’s at 2.35pm.
WEEKS 4, 6 & 8 - WILL BE IN LEARNING NEIGHBOURHOODS
WEEKS 5, 7 & 9 - WILL BE WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY IN THE MULTIPURPOSE HALL (weather permitting)
Students will return to the Learning Neighbourhoods after WHOLE SCHOOL assembly and be dismissed by their teachers AT 3.15PM.
Thank you to all our families who support and appreciate our work.
Regards,
Carmela
| Neighbourhood News - LN2 |
Learning Neighbourhood 2 has had three fantastic weeks so far in term 2. The students are excited to be at school and back with their peers.
In Reading and Writing, we have been learning about persuasive texts. All students have participated in debates with their peers to present their point of view on a topic and to provide reasons to support their opinion. They have been identifying the structure and strategies authors use to help convince a reader to agree with their opinion. The Grade 3s have also been preparing for their upcoming NAPLAN test. Good luck to all of the students who are participating in NAPLAN!
In Enrichment, students are learning about the Earth’s surface and the many landforms it has. They have enjoyed spending time creating models out of plasticine of their chosen landform and presented these to the class. This term we have an exciting incursion called ‘Our Place in Space’ on Monday, June 17. More information to come!
We look forward to continuing the fantastic learning in LN2!

Dear Parents and Friends of BVPS,
In Term 2 music our focus is set on “Fairy tales within Music”. In Learning Neighbourhood 1 we watched the Disney/Sergei Procofiev fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf”. The students are learning to identifying the different characters and the corresponding musical instruments. Students have been listening to different instruments and trying to recognise which character they represent in the plot.
Out of respect for students observing Ramadan we have modified the music program so students do not have to listen to or perform music during this important time. We are taking a literacy-based approach in our music program. Students in Learning Neighbourhood 2 will approach the “Peter and the Wolf” story by completing a research task using the internet with the end goal to publish an article about the story, as well as facts about Sergei Prokofiev (1-2 pages with pictures).
In Learning Neighbourhood 3 the music program will follow the same approach as LN2, although here the students are working on a different theme - Peer Gynt, the poem and play written by Henrik Ibsen and the connection to the “Peer Gynt Suite” composed by Edward Grieg. The article they write will contain facts about the plot as well as facts about the writer and the composer.
I hope this gives you a small insight into the music program this term.
Servus,
Alexander Murer - Music Specialist Teacher

We hope that all of the special ladies in our school community felt a little bit more special after this weekend! It is not only 'mothers' who do all the hard work and deserve all the thanks. We are also grateful for the grandmothers, aunties, carers, step-mothers and all of the other care givers who love and support our students in their lives in and out of school. Thank you to everyone who attended the Special Women's morning today.

Our Parent Ambassadors worked hard to plan our shopping stall and our Special Ladies morning. and they had good fun while doing it! If you are interested in becoming involved in this friendly group, please ask for more information at the office.
All of our adult learning classes are now up and running again for this term. Please feel welcome to come along to our English or sewing classes. All classes are free with childminding available if you need. A timetable of all activities is available at the office and on the café noticeboard.
Wishing Ramadan Mubarak to all of our families observing Ramadan. We wish you well.

Woolworths Earn and Learn
Woolworths Earn and Learn is on again. If you shop at Woolworths, we'd appreciate it if you would collect the stickers - each $10 you spend gets you one sticker (don't forget to ask for them at the checkout when you pay!). There are sticker sheets in the office that you can take and collect your stickers on, and when your sheet is full you can drop it in the box in the office! Last year we collected 1500 stickers which earned us some great sport equipment for the students to use during playtime. We'd love to beat that number this year. Earn and Learn runs until the end of the term, so get collecting!
