Principal's Message

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to the last week of the year in our fabulous school. The end of term and holidays are nearly here.

A reminder that school finishes on THURSDAY 16th December at 2.00pm. All staff will be using the day on Friday to plan and prepare for 2022.

Thank you for being understanding of the arrangements for drop offs and pick-ups since our return to school – it has helped minimise the potential for Covid outbreaks especially with the all-important family time of Christmas just around the corner.

School Council

School Council met for the final time for 2021 on Tuesday night. I would like to express my gratitude to this group of parents and community members for their continued support throughout this year. They have been diligent in their attendance of these meetings and have remained committed throughout the lockdown period. We have met via Webex technology and have been able to complete the school business in a timely and perhaps more comfortable manner, whilst in the comfort of our homes. I thank them profusely and welcome them back for their last meeting as a 2021 School Council in February 2022.

Planning for 2022

As planning continues to develop the structure for homegroups and learning neighbourhood teams for 2022, we will provide you with a full break down of the final homegroup structure by the end of the week. Our planning has had to change due to some staff securing positions in other schools for 2022.

Year 6 Graduation

Year 6 graduation is scheduled for Tuesday 14th December. I know that the students along with the Learning Neighbourhood team of teachers are busy preparing for the evening. It’s always a great night to celebrate the end of our students’ primary school years as well as a significant time for teachers and parents, reflecting on how our children have grown up so quickly.

We are looking forward to farewelling our students knowing of the learning opportunities that await them in secondary school.

End of Year Celebrations

As we are nearing Christmas, we will be permitting the exchange of cards and gifts between students. Please note that the sharing of food is still not permitted as per the DET School Operations Guide. This includes candy canes, lollies, and any packaged foods. We appreciate your support with this. Our goal is to finish the year with everyone healthy and well in time for the holiday period.

Currently we have 215 children enrolled for 2022, if you know of families who have not enrolled their child/ren yet please remind them to contact us asap. We also ask if your family is moving out of the area to let us know as soon as you can, as this supports our planning for 2022.

Teachers have now completed reports and they are ready for parents and carers.

The continual focus for 2022 will be on the COVID Catch Up and our Annual Implementation Plan goals will reflect this in a very considered manner.

2022 will also be our year of review. Details regarding the School review process including how parents/carers can be involved will be shared next year.

Tutor Learning Initiative to continue in 2022

I am happy to share the news that the Victorian Government is continuing the Tutor Learning Initiative in 2022. This initiative is designed to address the continued impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on student learning and engagement in Victoria. Jan Vella will continue in leading this program in our school and we thank her for her continued efforts to make this program successful for all the students who worked within it.

The extension of the initiative will allow us to continue to provide our students who need it most with targeted Tutor Learning Initiative learning support in the 2022 school year.

Swimming 2022

Over the past 2 years BVPS has received funding to allow for increased opportunities for students to participate in swimming and water safety programs. As a result of COVID-19 and the interruptions to school swimming programs there has been a Swimming School Voucher program released. Our partnership with the Broadmeadows Leisure Centre has allocated the cost of the voucher to be $55 per student. We aim to transfer this funding to the 2022 Swimming program where we will increase our participation numbers from 100 students attending to 150 students attending a swimming program. With the rollover of the voucher program, we aim to enable all students to swim free of charge using this funding.

Updated Visitor and Volunteers Policy (including vaccination requirements)

The Department of Education and Training (DET) has updated policy requirements relating to parents, carers and adult visitors and volunteers working on school sites.

COVID-19 Vaccination Information

Under the directions issued by the Victorian Chief Health Officer, visitors and volunteers attending school to work are required to be vaccinated or provide evidence that they are medically exempt. Our school is required to collect, record, and hold vaccination information from relevant visitors to ensure they meet these requirements.

Department policy also requires us to ensure parents and carers and other adult visitors are vaccinated or medically exempt before entering school buildings and when attending outdoor gatherings and events.

There will be some changes for 2022.

We bid farewell to Belinda King, Cyndi Stewart and Aimee Lowry and wish them all the very best in their new schools.

Sharni Moloney will be travelling around Australia in 2022 and will also be missed.

We would like to thank them for their work at BVPS and the significant contributions they have made throughout their time with us.

We will welcome Alena Schneider as our new Music Specialist teacher. Everyone is so thrilled to have this program operating again in our school. Alena is excited about what is possible in this program at our school having spent the day with us on Friday.

I will be taking some leave in Term 1 and look forward to some relaxation and a break from the role of Principal. The Regional office are currently organising my replacement for this period.

First Day of 2022 School Year

The first day back for all Year Prep/Foundation – Grade 6 students in 2022 is Tuesday February 1st. The prep/foundation students will participate in an assessment program which will take place by appointment on Wednesdays. Prep/Foundation students will not be required to attend school on Wednesdays in February except for their 1 hour appointment. You will received your appointment by mail over the holidays.

All teachers will be back at school on Friday 28th of January and Monday 31st of January, both being student free curriculum days.

Farewell to Families

We will be farewelling some of our families this year who have relocated to other parts of the city and state. We wish you all well and thank you for your ongoing support of our work during the time you were with us.

We wish you well.

Best wishes for a great holiday break. Stay happy and safe.
